Feeling (safe) is healing.
Wandering the streets and watching the chaotic and painfully fragmented state of the world unfold in front of us, one can only wonder: How to soothe a world that is aching? How to hold out a caring hand, to guide with compassion – how to keep your heart open in hell, like Baba Ram Dass said.
Research has shown that the present and spreading symptoms of mental illness - restlessness, confusion, aggression, lethargy, depression, anxiety - can be tied to an imbalance in our brains. Not simply a naturally predisposed or even fixed trait, but a state we can have an influence (or be influenced) on.
In the way we choose what to consume, what to watch or listen to, how to move, what to eat & drink, when to sleep, who to speak to and how… We have a direct impact on our cerebral function, our emotional state, in a way our affects and actions.
The stress response due to a volatile and ever more demanding modern day society constantly triggers our high-alert alarm system, and leaves insufficient resources for our parasympathetic system, which is responsible for relaxation and recovery.
We are quite literally in a constant state of invisible or illusionary danger. In survival mode in the concrete jungle.
Parts of our brain once activated through real threat now fire facing a fictive terror we can not escape. We made the hungry roaring tiger an imagined ticking clock. But what can bind us can also set us free.
Slowing down and resting is literally healing.
We know from neurophysiology & -biology that the impact of soothing caring touch releases nearly all the needed chemicals in the brain for optimal functioning. For an ideal and balanced feeling & being – a state that we seek and try to give to mentally or physically suffering people by drugs.
This aim at ‘playing God’, controlling and managing, a way of trying to manipulate Mother Nature – arrogantly supposing we could be more potent or intelligent.
Grasping like a hungry ghost at everything that is already present long before and will be after us. Reinforcing the illusion and fallacy of seeking something other than ourselves. Running in circles believing fulfillment is to be found outside of us. Running after an imaginary perpetrator outside of us, instead of looking at ourselves in the mirror and asking vulnerably where we have gone wrong.
Not in order to judge or blame, but in order to understand, listen and integrate. Allowing and inviting in the possibility that a transformation, a change of our patterns, habits, needs and fears demands a conscious choice.
A willing and daring commitment – and the inherent gift of freedom.
From (over)consumption & sedation to cultivation.
Our new paradigm, a wise old rediscovered & re-membered abundance – realizing that all richness is already available to us here & now.
Open up your body to the recognition that you already have it and that you’re worthy of it. All of it.
When we are in our most natural state of openness & trust in ourselves, living art pours out of us. When this happens, it is magnetic. Abundance flows from and into our hearts.
The most important & essential power source is the source of choice.
Of free will, to decide in each moment what will nurture our soul.
And by that soothe the aching system, the planetary pain.
Learning, by accepting to try and to dare.
Deep breath, sound sleep, movement, vibration, harmonious music, nature, light, soft touch are all activating our safety system and helping our cells to regenerate, our bodies and minds to restore and strengthen themselves.
We can allow ourselves to tap into the ever-present healing potential within our cells, our bodies, our minds.
It is a journey of unfolding and going inwards, of expansion and deepening.
One of the longest but most beautiful and rewarding journeys – from the head to the heart.
